We are deeply saddened by the loss of Ted Hope, a visionary and beloved member of our community. Ted was not only the founder of our Aquatics Center here at The Rec SJI, but the driving force behind its very existence. In the late ’80s and early ’90s, he rallied the community with passion and purpose — selling annual memberships in advance to fund the construction of the pool extension. His determination and belief in the power of community helped build more than just a facility; he helped build a legacy.
Together with his wife Peggy, Ted also founded Spring Street School — another testament to their shared commitment to education, growth, and the betterment of our island. Their contributions have shaped the lives of countless families and will continue to do so for generations to come.
Working out was one of Ted’s great joys, and his mornings at the gym were filled with laughter, encouragement, and stories from “the good ol’ days.” His presence brought energy and warmth that can’t be replaced, and his absence leaves a deep void in our mornings and in our hearts.
To Peggy and the Hope family, our prayers and love are with you. Thank you for sharing Ted with all of us. His legacy lives on in every splash in the pool, every rep in the gym, and every student whose life has been touched by the institutions he helped build.
Rest easy, Ted — you truly made waves.
