OPALCO seems to have forgotten we live in the Pacific NW | Letter

Time for a reality check. I have solar panels and what will come as no surprise to anybody is my peak electric demand is in the winter, duh. The peak electric production is in the summer, again duh. The panels make significant electricity for only about 3-4 months and essentially none when the demand is highest in mid-winter. OPALCO seems to have forgotten we live in the Pacific NW and not in lower latitudes. Their graph representing annual use vs solar production presents a deceitful picture of the benefits as the solar farm will make very little difference when we need the power in the winter. I am a pretty rabid environmentalist and if you care about the environment the stupidity of covering raw land with glass panels for marginal benefits is not environmentally friendly. The proposal is a classic case of something that sounds good but the benefits are not as they appear.
