Help provide shelter for San Juan Island’s homeless dogs and cats

On July 25, the Animal Protection Society — Friday Harbor will hold our sixth annual “Wags to Riches” fund-raiser to benefit the animal shelter. Again, “Wags to Riches” will take place at the spacious estate of Bob and Lissa McDowell on San Juan Island and we expect another sellout crowd of 250 attendees. A canine exhibition will provide entertainment, there will be live music and a delicious gourmet menu catered by one of the island’s top chefs. There will be a live auction with some fantastic items and wine service will be skillfully coordinated by shelter staff and volunteers. And new this year, there will dancing under the stars with a live dance band.

There will be a live auction with some fantastic items and wine service will be skillfully coordinated by shelter staff and volunteers. The first five years have proven to be successful, raising over $20,000 each year, in large part through the auction of items and services donated by local artists and businesses. In true island spirit, this community has opened its hearts and pocketbooks to support our mission to care for the lost, homeless and abandoned cats and dogs. This year, once again we are offering event sponsorships and hope that you will participate by becoming an event sponsor at one of the following levels.

— $2,500: Sponsorship includes recognition in all event advertising including program, local newspapers and Web site, eight event tickets at your own V.I.P. table and a complimentary bottle of champagne.

— $1,000: Sponsorship includes recognition in all event advertising including program, local newspapers and Web site, four event tickets at a shared V.I.P. table and a complimentary bottle of champagne.

— $500: Sponsorship includes recognition in all event advertising including program, local newspapers and Web site and two event tickets.

With your help, we can continue to raise the critical funds that are needed to maintain shelter operation. As you may already know, APS-FH provides essential public services to the island solely through private contributions. There is no county pound and no tax dollars are allocated to APS-FH for the services we provide.
