Last month, we had an article in the American Legion Post 163 newsletter about David Tobon.
David’s National Guard unit has been called to Iraq. While he is serving his country, his wife is struggling to complete the required 35 hours of work on their Homes for Islanders home. This is in addition to taking care of her own job and a five-month-old baby.
You know, 17.5 of those hours can be done by volunteers. We all know that getting that first home is difficult, especially here in the islands. As veterans we owe it to one of our own, who has been called to duty in Iraq.
Can you spare an hour or two per week? If you are not handy with power tools, you can help with construction clean up, painting, or trimming the insulation from around windows, etc. Just stop by the construction site on Guard Street, across from the library. The construction site is open during daylight hours Wednesday through Sunday. Fred Marracci will help you sign in.
