Today, the Town of Friday Harbor paused to remember those who perished during the Sept. 11 attacks and to acknowledge the impact of these
attacks on our Nation.
At the end of this memorial, a prayer was offered in which we were asked to remember that this country does have an enemy. While this may be true, the prayer should not end there. It is imperative for our national healing that we always carry in our hearts the rest of this prayer from the Gospel of Luke:
To you who hear I say, love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you,
pray for those who mistreat you . . .
Stop judging and you will not be judged.
Stop condemning and you will not be condemned.
Forgive and you will be forgiven.
Give and gifts will be given to you;
a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing,
will be poured into your lap.
For the measure with which you measure
will in return be measured out to you.
