Many thanks to the “Greening Your Food” panels at the Stewardship Network’s Sustainable San Juans event held on April 18.
The following individuals gave their valuable time to address the community on “Growing a Local Food Economy”: Tom French, director of the Experience Food Project; Thomas Ashcraft, distributor and owner of Heuristic Enterprises; Lovel Pratt, representing the Ag Guild; Madden Surbaugh, owner of Steps Wine Bar and Café; and Rob Waldron, owner of Ravengap Farm representing the Island Grown Farmers Co-op.
The following panelists discussed “What’s To Eat in San Juan County”: Candace Jagel, coordinator of WSU Ag Education; Katie Hover of Lacrover Farm; Elaine Kendal of Sweet Earth Farm and WSU Master Gardeners; Bequin Boreen represented the Garden at Ackley’s Corner (a community garden); and Eliza Buck of the Agriculture Resources Committee and Sowing Circle Garden. Again, many thanks!
Remember folks, the farmers markets are getting going again on San Juan (courthouse parking lot), Orcas (village green) and Lopez (in the village across from Vitas). Markets open around 10 a.m. on Saturdays.
The San Juan Farmers Market is also going to have a Wednesday market, so stay posted on location and times.
Please eat local, support your farmer neighbor and help support our local food economy.
