The Sept. 10 Journal contained the article “Events will remember 9/11 attacks.” The tragedy was outlined: two airliners flown into the Trade Towers, a third into the Pentagon, and a fourth crashing in Pennsylvania, resulting in nearly 3,000 deaths.

The article then goes on to describe the “ensuing Iraq War” as though there is a connection. These are two separate events. There is no connection other than having terrorism in common. 9/11 was caused by bin Laden and 19 hijackers, most of whom were Saudis, as is bin Laden.

There has never been any evidence of collaborative relationship between Osama bin Laden/al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein.

The Iraq War was caused by the Bush Administration alleging possession by Saddam Hussein of weapons of mass destruction, which incidentally were never found. There were other supposed influences for the invasion of Iraq: Iraq’s support of Palestinian suicide bombers; neoconservatives’ attempt at destabilizing OPEC; human rights abuses, etc. All or none, take your pick.

More importantly, however, is the moral responsibility to keep these events separate for the people who died in them. History will view them differently.
