Zakula joins Johnsons as co-owner of Islanders Insurance

Gigi Zakula has another hat to wear at Islanders Insurance. As of Jan. 1, Zakula has joined Kerwin and Margaret Johnson as co-owner of the Friday Harbor-based insurance company. Zakula, who first joined the company in 1991, has worked as an agent, underwriter and claims handler, and in 2007 took on the position as the agency's manager.

Gigi Zakula has another hat to wear at Islanders Insurance.

As of Jan. 1, Zakula has joined Kerwin and Margaret Johnson as co-owner of the Friday Harbor-based insurance company. Zakula, who first joined the company in 1991, has worked as an agent, underwriter and claims handler, and in 2007 took on the position as the agency’s manager.

Established in the early 1950s, Islanders Insurance has had several owners during its 60-year tenure in Friday Harbor, including the Buck, Reed and Stockamp families. The agency was purchased by the Johnsons in 1983. Partnering with Zakula continues a tradition, one which the Johnsons are proud to maintain, that the business is locally-owned and operated.

Kerwin Johnson will continue to work at the agency, though on a more part-time basis. In addition to Zakula and Johnson, the agency has four employees: Ian Boulton, Vanessa Johnson, Jodi Logsdon and Mary Wade.
