Fine wines, excellent cheeses and the wit and wisdom of wine educator Shannon Borg will all be served up at another Wine and Cheese Pairing event at San Juan Island Cheese on Friday, Oct. 25, at 5:30 p.m.
Writer and editor Borg, sommelier at Doe Bay Cafe on Orcas Island, will tell you about green and sustainable vineyards and wineries on the West Coat and about the wines you’ll be sampling at a special event at Richard and Sherri Daly’s wine and cheese store and restaurant, San Juan Island Cheese, at 155 Nichols St., across from Brickworks.
Shannon Borg is a writer, editor, poet, and wine educator. She writes about wine for Seattle Magazine, and her poems have been published in such journals as the Paris Review, the London Review of Books, the Antioch Review and Poetry Northwest.
The Green Vine, which Borg will talk about and sign at the wine tasting, is a guide to “green” wines and how you can drink smarter.
From reviewing vineyard systems to examining cork materials to deciphering labels, Borg demystifies the winemaking process and provides a practical overview of West Coast vineyards and wineries that use both historical and modern sustainable practices.
Winemakers are starting to take environmental stewardship seriously, changing how they grow grapes and make wine. With The Green Vine in hand, you can raise a glass of Cabernet or Chardonnay in support.
Friday, Oct. 25, 5:30 p.m., San Juan Island Cheese, 155 Nichols St., Friday Harbor. $25 per person. RSVP, seats are limited.
