Rock Island, T-Mobile bridge cellular gap
Rock Island Technology Solutions is now a T-Mobile dealership.
Rock Island identified the T-Mobile brand as the perfect complement to its broadband and technology solutions. T-Mobile @Home and T-Mobile Hotspot fills a niche market in the islands and enables T-Mobile users to utilize a WiFi signal in addition to traditional cellular signals to make and receive calls.
Rock Island can transfer existing wireless and local landline phone numbers to T-Mobile cellular service for no additional cost.
Rock Island stocks several HotSpot capable cellular phones and a variety of hands free cellular accessories at their Friday Harbor retail store.

AccountAbility Resources finds growing niche
AccountAbility Resources, Inc, a local firm owned and managed by Dan and Andi Zaehring, has moved to a larger location in the Whidbey Island Bank Building.
Starting out as a home business, AccountAbility moved first to the Design Center in 1997 and then to the Guard Electric Building, where it was located for the last six years.
“We were perfectly happy at the Guard Electric Building, and Frankie and Melissa Guard were the best of landlords, but we simply outgrew the space”, Dan Zaehring said. “With five employees, we were wondering if we should investigate bunk desks. Now we have room to grow.”
AccountAbility serves small businesses who need accounting help with a range of activities such as payroll, bill paying, producing invoices and receiving customer payments.
“Sometimes our clients just need a review once a month or so. for others, we actually act as the business office — especially for those businesspersons who are really good at what they do but either dislike the paperwork or find it necessary to get assistance in that area. Of course, compliance with the various government requirements often ranks up there as well.
“We always encourage businesses to engage a CPA, who can both provide overview advice as well as prepare the annual tax returns for the business. Generally the CPA is happy to work with us because they get a clean package at year end which allows them to be efficient as well as to focus on the strategic questions.”
AccountAbility Resources can be reached at 378-6743.
County offers portable recycling units
San Juan County’s Solid Waste Division has portable recycling containers available for loan to organizations who want to increase recycling at public events.
Since last year, the division has provided free recycling containers to Island Rec for use at Camp Eagle Rock, the K9 Carnival, the Children’s Festival, and Dunken at Sunken. They were hauled over to Lopez Island for the first San Juan Stewardship Summit. The county employee union used them at last year’s picnic. The San Juan Lions Club tried them out for its Fourth of July festivities. The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce increased recycling at the Summer Arts Festival. The Animal Protection Society borrowed them for “Wags to Riches.”
These containers are portable, easy to set up (next to garbage cans), and are “see through” to allow users to see the results of their recycling efforts and to discourage contamination with non-recyclable trash items.
