San Juan Island businesses go to the dogs Friday

On Friday, coffee breaks and fire hydrant breaks will go hand-in-hand (or hand-in-paw). Bringing a lunch to work will mean bringing a sandwich and a dog bone. Workplaces across the country will rollover for man’s best friend. To commemorate the 10th year of Pet Sitters International’s “Take Your Dog to Work Day,” local businesses are being encouraged to join forces with animal shelters and professional pet sitters to celebrate the great companionship our canine pals offer.

To commemorate the 10th year of Pet Sitters International’s “Take Your Dog to Work Day,” local businesses are being encouraged to join forces with animal shelters and professional pet sitters to celebrate the great companionship our canine pals offer.

Created by Pet Sitters International and supported by sponsors like Comfort Zone with DAP, and Modern Dog magazine, “Take Your Dog to Work Day” encourages businesses and offices to open the doors to employees’ four-legged friends.

The day is built around a positive approach to confronting the not-so-positive issue of pet overpopulation. Pet Sitters International believes “Take Your Dog to Work Day” boosts pet adoptions from animal shelters, humane societies and rescue groups by educating the working public on the benefits of responsible pet ownership and the power of the human-animal bond.
