Next generation takes over Sweet Retreat and Espresso

Sweet Retreat — 264 Spring St., Friday Harbor — is now owned by Dave and Michele Morton, who purchased the business from Dave's mom, Kathie. Dave Morton worked alongside his mom since the business was founded in May 1998 and is "thrilled" to keep the family tradition alive.

Sweet Retreat and Espresso has new owners.

Sweet Retreat — 264 Spring St., Friday Harbor — is now owned by Dave and Michele Morton, who purchased the business from Dave’s mom, Kathie.

Dave Morton worked alongside his mom since the business was founded in May 1998 and is “thrilled” to keep the family tradition alive.

“The family touch is real and is tasted when we make any of our specials,” he and his wife said in an announcement of the ownership change. “Here are a few of them: Mom’s home-made soups and sandwiches, mini-loaves of cornbread, hot and cold espresso drinks, shakes, malts, smoothies, granitas, and Hawaiian Shaved Ice (during summer). We take pride and enjoy each customer we serve.”

Sweet Retreat’s phone number is 378-1957; the Web site is www.sweetretreatandespresso.com. Business hours are Mondays through Fridays, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 7 a.m. to noon.

Deliveries are made before 11:30 a.m. and after 1 p.m. Monday through Friday; orders called in the day prior receive 10 percent off. Other special features: Gift certificates available, daily and weekly specials, and Saturday “code words” for special discounts.

Sweet Retreat accepts VISA and MasterCard.
