Island Homewatch earned NHWA accreditation for the tenth year

Submitted by the National Home WAtch Association

Island Homewatch has earned accreditation from the National Home Watch Association for the tenth year. The NHWA was formed in 2009 in order to establish and maintain the highest industry standards for Home Watch and absentee homeowner services throughout the United States and Canada (www.nationalhomewatchassociation.org). Home Watch is a visual inspection of a home or property, looking for obvious issues, which means that it is a service that “keeps an eye on things” at your vacation or primary home while you are not in residence. All principals of NHWA Accredited Member companies are background-checked, insured, and bonded.

Owners Margie and Allan Smith sailed their home-built boat into Friday Harbor in the fall of 1978, completing a remarkable journey from the Napa River to the San Juan Islands. In 1981, they purchased property and built their home, where they continue to reside.

With over 35 years in the local building trades—Allan in remodeling and Margie in cabinet making—they possess extensive experience and a wealth of contacts within the community. Their deep commitment to Friday Harbor, where they raised their children, is evident in their active involvement in the island’s life.

Island Homewatch was established in 2015, born out of a clear need that Margie and Allan identified within their community. Understanding the unique requirements of island living, they built their business on trust and local referrals. Their reputation for reliability and professionalism has fueled their growth.

Island Homewatch provides comprehensive Home Watch services tailored to the specific needs of San Juan Island residents. Their regular property visits include thorough inspections, both inside and out, to identify and address potential issues. This proactive approach helps mitigate risks and provides peace of mind to property owners, whether they are away for short or extended periods.

Margie and Allan’s deep roots in the local community enhance their service offerings. Their extensive network within the building trades means they can quickly address any issues that arise during property checks. This integration ensures that their clients receive the highest level of care and attention.
