Career opportunity: Get certified as a sediment control lead

Skagit Valley College San Juan Center has developed a three-day erosion and sediment control instruction program that will provide participants with the required 18 hours necessary to become a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead.

Certain construction projects, including those requiring a construction stormwater general permit, now require that site inspections be conducted by a certified lead.

The certification class will meet April 24, noon to 4 p.m.; April 25, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and April 26, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The class will be led by Dr. Claus Svendsen, chairman of the Department of Environmental Conservation. Upon completion of this course, each participant will be a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead recognized by the state Department of Ecology.

The course is sponsored in part by the San Juan County Marine Resources Committee through a grant from the state Department of Ecology Local Source Control Program.

Advance registration is required. Registration fee is $100 and includes all materials and certification.
