The other candidate for appointment was Jeremy Talbott, who ran for the commission in November.

At their regular meeting on July 1, Island Rec Board of Commissioners appointed Tracy Roberson to the Commissioner position vacated by Amy Windrope.

Tracy is a San Juan Island native who has had an interest in Island Rec for the past decade and beyond. Most recently she has been an active member of the Trails Committee and was one of the key organizers of the Share the Ride Event. She and her family are frequent participants in many of Island Rec’s programs.

Tracy joins other Island Rec commissioners Alisa Schoultz, chair, Bill Cumming, Jim Ricks and Scott Zehner. Island Rec Commission meets in the Island Rec office at 580 Guard Street on the first Thursday of every month at 5:00 pm and encourages the public to attend.

San Juan Island Park and Recreation District, locally known as Island Rec, operates the Family Park and Skatepark, Eddie and Friends Dog Park and the San Juan Island Trails Committee. Additionally it runs a year-round comprehensive recreation program and publishes three seasonal program guides each year. As authorized by voters at the 2009 general election Island Rec is the main funding source for Friday Harbor High School Sports program.
