They probably never even broke a sweat.

Paired together as Friday Harbor’s No. 1 doubles team, seniors Hayden Place and Parker Satin scorched the competition to clinch the league’s No. 1 doubles title with a pair of straight set victories, Saturday, on the Wolverines home court.

Along with the title, Place and Satin, who dropped only two games in back-to-back wins over Coupeville’s No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams, punched their ticket to the Tri-District tournament, which gets under way October 25, at the Amy Yee Tennis Center in Seattle.

Satin and Place tallied a 6-1 6-1 victory over Coupeville’s Jason Knoll and Larry Hurlburt to advance to the league title bout, and then dispatched Aaron Curtin and Taru Yamauchi 6-0 6-0 to net the league’s 2011 doubles championship and advance into post-season play.

In singles, senior Sandro Meyer defeated Ben Wehram 6-1 6-1 in the opening round to earn a shot at the league title, but fell 4-6 6-2 6-4 to Coupeville’s Nathan Lamb, the District 1 No. 1 seed, in the championship match.

As District 1 runner up, Meyer will square off in a “feeder match” Monday, with a berth at the Tri-District tournament on the line.

Senior Shaughn Anderson was eliminated from singles competition following back-to-back losses to Lamb and Wehram.

Friday Harbor’s No. 2 doubles team, Ryan Cole and Sean Hills, bounced back from a hotly contested loss to Curtin and Yamauch in three sets, 3-6 7-5 2-6, and defeated Hurlburt and Knoll 6-2 6-0 in the consolation bracket.

A berth in the Division 1A state tournament, which takes place in the spring sports season, will be on the line both in double and singles at Tuesday’s Tri-District playoffs.
