San Juan was leading 11-5 at the half and on its way to its fifth consecutive win Saturday at Friday Harbor High School, vs. Providence (5-3, Cascade Conference).

With the win, the Dragons would improve to 5-1 and retain their hold on first place in the Skagit Conference. Their next game is April 21 at Silver Lake (0-6, Cascade Conference).

Senior midfielder Forest Dayton put San Juan on the board in the first 30 seconds of the game. Senior attackman Ryan Guard had a remarkable six goals in the first half. Senior midfielder Alex Michael, senior attackman Kyle Skoog and junior midfielder Cody West also contributed goals.

It was a physical first half, with a lot of body checks, balls knocked loose and players knocked to the ground. The Dragons could show finesse and grace, passing to slow the game down and get the ball into shooting position; and they could be aggressive when needed, allowing a larger attackman like Guard to muscle near the goal for a shot.

“Great team work,” said Leo Michael, father of midfielder Alex Michael. “The attacks are fast, the middies are cutting in, and everyone is passing the ball. Team work is what’s happening today.”

San Juan is favored in the Silver Lake game. They host Snohomish (7-1 Cascade Conference) on April 24, 2 p.m.
