Friday Harbor falls short on the offensive end in two road losses | Boys Basketball

Friday Harbor led 14-9 after the first eight minutes of play, but were outscored 34-21 over the following three quarters as the La Conner rallied as the Braves rallied to clinch the victory in the league-opener for both teams.

The Wolverines were running on empty offensively in back-to-back losses on the road over the weekend.

On Saturday, Friday Harbor managed just six points before the break and trailed by a dozen at the end of the third period in a 37-31 non-conference loss at University Prep. Though they outscored the Pumas by six points in the final period, the Wolverines were unable to overcome that double-digit deficit before the end of regulation.

Junior Roy Taylor, the only Wolverine to score in double figures, tallied 12 points. Tanner Buck had nine, Parker Lawson added four.

Nick Belyaev of University Prep tallied nine points to lead a balanced Pumas’ scoring attack, with eight players putting points on the board.

With the loss, Friday Harbor fell to 1-3 overall.

On Friday, the Wolverines jumped out to an early lead but stumbled on the offensive end after the opening period, falling to Northwest 1A/2B League rival La Conner in a 43-35 loss.

“We definitely had our chances,” Head Coach Rod Turnbull said.

Senior Parker Lawson led the Wolverines with 13 points and Tanner Buck had nine.
