Operation Gratitude is asking knitters to make scarves to be included in 60,000 care packages being sent to our military overseas for the winter season ahead.
Spread the word for those that enjoy knitting. The instructions are easy and you can get the yarn and instructions at the yarn shop opposite King’s Market in town.
Here is one I use called the “lost stitch” design. Use colors suitable for the military. Cast on an uneven number, like 33 or 35 or 37 stitches. Use large wooden needles. Knit two, purl two, until the last three stitches, which are all done the same. Turn and repeat.
Width should be 4.5 to 6 inches wide and 48 to 54 inches long. This design will not curl, is attractive and stretches. Bind off, and start another!
Any questions, call Helen King, 378-9450; or contact Sharon Howard at Operation Gratitude.sharhoward39@gmail.com
All items and letters can be shipped or delivered between Sept. 8 to Dec. 5. Please include a note if you like with your scarf to wish them well and tell them how much you appreciate all they do for us!
Your only shipping cost is in sending the items to Operation Gratitude:
Operation Gratitude/California Army National Guard
17330 Victory Blvd.
Van Nuys, CA 91406
ATTN: Charlie Othold
However, any contributions toward the cost of shipping the packages overseas would be greatly appreciated.
