Enjoying fruits of many labors

How about our president being selected for the Nobel Prize? I don’t really expect anyone to understand the special inner glow I feel about this and all other honors and respect being shown these days for black people! Each time something like this happens, I feel a surge of pride and gratitude as real as if the honoree was one of my kids!

How about our president being selected for the Nobel Prize?

I don’t really expect anyone to understand the special inner glow I feel about this and all other honors and respect being shown these days for black people! Each time something like this happens, I feel a surge of pride and gratitude as real as if the honoree was one of my kids!

In my 89th year, there is precious little to feel “good” about my feeble self, but I guess there was so much of my inner true self that I put into civil rights work that I will forever feel exultation when there are fruits of our labor like this.

Right or wrong, I refuse to entertain guilt over spending those many Saturday mornings away from my family, registering black voters who would have a voice for the first time in Texas history! My three children didn’t suffer neglect, I am convinced, and I did help carve out a better future America for them and their progeny!

Rejoice with me, please.
