San Juan Golf and Country Club will host the Kiwi Classic Golf Tournament and Auction on Sept. 11 to raise money to help defray Phil McKee’s medical expenses.

McKee, a long-time golf club member, is battling Stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The Men’s Club cancelled its game that day to be sure there is room for the Kiwi Classic.

The event will start off with a golf tournament in the afternoon, followed by dinner, live music, and a silent and live auction in the evening.

“Your contributions are needed to help out Phil and his family,” Team Phil stated on the tournament announcement.

There are many ways to participate:

— Enter a four-person team in the Kiwi Classic at $400 per team.

— Sponsor a hole in the tournament for $200.

— Donate items for the auctions.

— Bring your family and friends to the dinner: $25 per adult, $15 per child.

— Purchase a “Kiwi Classic” T-shirt.

— Donate directly to the Phil McKee Medical Fund at Islanders Bank or at the event.

For golf tournament information or to sponsor a hole, contact Kay Landberg, 378-4242; or the golf club Pro Shop, 378-2254.

To donate auction items, call Staci or Kelly at 378-4166.

“Think creatively: we are looking for artwork, services, gift certificates, topsoil and gravel (Yes!), labor or even use of vacation rentals.”

For any questions about this event and to check on McKee’s status, call Staci or Kelly of Friday Harbor Electric at 378-4166.

“We are looking forward to seeing all of Phil’s fellow members coming together to support him in his time of need. Phil has been a big supporter of the golf club – serving on the board multiple times, donating his time and skills and promoting our club tournaments,” Team Phil stated on the tournament announcement.

“Our island community is well known for taking care of their own. Let’s give Phil our love and support as he marches toward victory in his battle!”
