San Juan Island home damaged, trees uprooted in Wednesday’s windstorm

Power lines and flag poles weren't the only casualties of Wednesday's high winds. Three massive fir trees were uprooted and the largest, as it fell, tore off a section of roof and wall of the garage of a waterfront home on San Juan Island's Griffin Bay. The damage left the interior of the garage exposed to the weather.

Power lines and flag poles weren’t the only casualties of Wednesday’s high winds.

Three massive fir trees were uprooted and the largest, as it fell, tore off a section of roof and wall of the garage of a waterfront home on San Juan Island’s Griffin Bay. The damage left the interior of the garage exposed to the weather.

The other two trees, located on a neighboring lot, severed a short wooden fence and landed on the roof of the two-story home in the 200 block of North Bay Lane.

The tops of several tall trees surrounding the home were snapped by the high winds as well.

The home, which is owned by a Seattle couple, according to the San Juan County Assessor’s office, apparently was unoccupied at the time the windstorm struck.
