The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Nov. 6
• An Orcas deputy responded to a call for a welfare check. A hiker on Turtleback Mountain consumed Psilocybin
mushrooms and experienced negative effects. EMS provided medical assistance.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a domestic dispute. There was insufficient evidence that a crime had been committed. The complainant was referred to local services.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a call of harassment. The reporting party called after having unwanted contact with his parents at a local business.
Nov. 7
• A Lopez deputy contacted an individual regarding mental health. The incident was referred to Compass Health and the incident was documented.
• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to assist EMS with a person with dementia. The sheriff’s patrol vessel was used to transport the person to the hospital.
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a mental health call. An individual was contacted and was referred to Compass Heath. The incident was documented.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a person sleeping in the roadway. The person was contacted and agreed to move to a safer location.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a broken window. A report was taken.
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of an unwanted person. An investigation was conducted, and it was determined to be a civil issue. The incident was documented, and resources were provided.
• Orcas deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a public beach. Deputies arrested an adult woman on outstanding warrants and she resisted arrest, resulting in an additional charge.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for expired registration, speed and no seatbelt. The driver was issued an infraction for failure to renew registration over two months.
• San Juan deputies responded to a collision involving a vehicle and bicyclist in Friday Harbor. The driver fled in the vehicle and the cyclist was transported to the hospital for treatment. The driver or vehicle has yet to be located.
• Lopez deputies responded to a domestic dispute. Upon investigation, it was determined that no crime had occurred. Both involved parties agreed to separate for the evening.
Nov. 8
• An Orcas deputy responded to a call of suspicious activity. The reporting party found all four of her vehicle tires deflated of air, which had occurred overnight.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a call for an agency assist. Adult Protective Services requested a welfare check be conducted on a vulnerable adult. The vulnerable adult was a victim of financial exploitation.
• A Lopez deputy and Lopez Island Fire & EMS were dispatched to a welfare check. An individual was referred to Compass Health and the incident was documented.
• A Lopez deputy stopped a vehicle. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of an animal problem. An individual was cited and released for San Juan County Code Public Nuisance and a report was taken.
• A deputy on Orcas received some property for safekeeping.
• A San Juan Island deputy stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign and expired registration. The driver was issued an infraction for expired registration over 2 months.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a call of a noninjury motor vehicle collision. The victim’s vehicle was struck by an oncoming vehicle. None of the involved parties required EMS. The incident was documented.
Nov. 9
• San Juan deputy received a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was later located abandoned. This investigation is ongoing.
• A Lopez resident reported damage to his mailbox, the second time this has happened in as many weeks. Steps were taken to identify the suspect.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a residential burglary in progress. The responding deputies arrived on scene and a search was conducted. The investigation is ongoing.
Nov. 10
• An Orcas deputy responded to a citizen assist call. The reporting party requested deputies check their property near the location of a recent burglary attempt. The responding deputies conducted a search of the area, and nothing of concern was found.
• Lopez deputies are investigating a hit-and-run collision with property damage. The suspect vehicle is a silver Nissan Maxima, 2000 to 2003.
• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding and a criminal citation for driving with a suspended vehicle registration.
• A deputy on San Juan Island was on routine patrol when they located a stolen vehicle in a parking lot. The truck was unoccupied and the registered owner retrieved their vehicle. A report was completed.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a report of trespassing on Buck Mountain. Trespass letters have been created and pending issue.
Nov. 11
• An Apple iPad was found on San Juan Island and turned in to the Sheriff’s Office. It was placed in the property and evidence room until the owner could be identified.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of trespassing from a neighbor removing trees on their property. The case was deemed to be civil in nature. No action was taken at this time.
• An Orcas deputy located a stolen vehicle at a local marina. The car was reported stolen over the summer and had been missing since. The owner was excited to learn his vehicle was located and a plan for its recovery was put into place.
• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for expired vehicle registration and given a verbal warning for speed.
Nov. 12
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a local citizen for a report of suspicious activity. An informational report was taken.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a prowler inside a garage who was caught on video camera going through their property. Upon arrival, the individual was taken into custody and arrested for criminal trespassing in the 1st degree and burglary in the second degree. He was booked into jail.
