New and improved library services

Submitted by the San Juan Island Library.

The San Juan Island Library is thrilled to announce the enhancement of support services made possible by its voter-approved levy lid lift. Thanks to the reinstatement of sustainable funding, the library can continue offering a range of innovative services and resources designed to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Evening hours

One of the key enhancements is the extension of library hours. The library is now open on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8 p.m., giving patrons more in-person access to library resources through new evening hours.

New digital resources

Recognizing the growing demand for digital resources for local authors and creators, the library has launched Biblioboard, an online database with free tools for professional self-publishing and for creating, sharing and discovering local creative content. Biblioboard will assist in collecting creative works from our community and allow them to be shared and enjoyed easily. There are training materials for these new resources. Go to www.sjlib.org/writers-corner/ for more information.

Support for printing and faxing

Sustainable funding allows the library to replace its aging public printer/copier, extending printer capabilities. The library now offers color printing and copying at 50 cents per page. Faxing services are also available for $3 for any one- to three-page fax, plus $1 per additional page.

Notary services

Recognizing the limited availability of notary services on the island, particularly on Saturdays, the library now has a notary on staff, able to perform basic notary services at no charge. For those needing something notarized, please ask at the front desk. The notary’s general schedule is Tuesdays through Saturdays, but available hours vary from day to day. Please have a valid form of ID and that all documents are prepared. If the need is time-sensitive, please email amorris@sjlib.org to schedule an appointment.

Come check it out!

The library invites all community members to visit the library and check out these improved services. With the highest voter turnout in the county since November 2022 and a higher approval margin than the library’s 2011 levy lid lift, the library staff and board are grateful for the community’s support and recognize their responsibility to continue providing the high level of service our community expects. Library staff are available to answer questions about these services and other questions anyone might have. For more information, email sjlib@sjlib.org or visit www.sjlib.org. Library cards are free of charge to islanders showing proof of residency. In addition to its collections of materials to loan, the library also provides public access to computers, free WiFi and more.
