Boyce Road construction

Submitted by the Orcas Power & Light Cooperative.

OPALCO has begun work on a necessary upgrade of a section of underground cable on Boyce Road, San Juan Island. This section of aging underground cable will be upgraded to support the growing demand for electricity on the San Juan Island grid. This replacement will allow OPALCO to continue providing reliable power to all our members on San Juan Island.

For the next couple months there will be crews out on Boyce Road to start the necessary excavation for the project, which will cover just over a mile of length. As a result, there will be road closures happening intermittently between now and the project’s completion (estimated around March 2025). Please plan for route delays along Boyce Road and use alternative routes whenever possible. If you must use Boyce Road, please drive with caution and obey all traffic signs as the crews will be out on a narrow shoulder.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we work to increase the reliability and capacity of our growing electric grid.

Please reach out to communications@opalco.com with any questions about the project.
