9/25/27 – 1/29/2024
Jerrie D Schmidt, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, touched the hearts of all who knew her. Born on September 25, 1927, she graced this world with her presence until January 29, 2024.
She was a light that lit up every room she entered and a fixture at the Friday Harbor drugstore for many years. Jerrie was also the driving force behind teaching many young girls the art of the runway walk at the local fashion shows that she was instrumental in putting together at the high school over the years.
She and Hal Rogers also built and ran The Oaks for many years together, and let’s not forget her reign as San Juan Sue, that was an exciting time for the island, and for her and her family as well, and she loved every minute of it!
If there was something interesting and exciting going on Jerrie was usually involved in someway or another, whether it was marching down the street, dressed like a leprechaun in one of the many parades that the island had or acting in one of the local plays or talent contests. Jerrie was always available to help and participate.
She and Hal were a very dedicated couple who were involved in island life and loved their community and its people. She loved her time spent in Friday Harbor and she maintained and cherished many of those friendships until her passing.
She embraced life with gusto, finding joy in every moment. Her journey led her through three marriages, each chapter marked by love and adventure.
She traveled the world, loved her champagne and played her favorite card game, Kings in the corner, everyday! She was a beautiful spirit inside and out. Witty, funny and a little sassy at times.
Her love for dressing up and hosting costume parties brought laughter and delight to all who attended. She had a knack for infusing every occasion with a song or clever diddy, making memories that will be treasured forever.
Though Mom may have left this world, her laughter, love, and zest for life will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew her. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, may we find solace in the memories we shared and the legacy she leaves behind.
Jerrie’s legacy lives on through her devoted children, Halli, Scott (RIP), Gayla, and Jason, along with her nine cherished grandchildren and ten adorable great-grandchildren.
Rest in peace, dear mother. You are deeply missed but forever remembered with love and affection.”
