Celebrate ‘Paws and Play’ at APS-FH

Submitted by the Animal Protection Society – Friday Harbor

All are invited to attend “Paws & Play,” a community event at the shelter! APS-FH is thrilled to be hosting a family-friendly, fun-for-all-ages event in partnership with local authors and illustrators, Griffin Bay Bookstore and San Juan Island Library!

This event will be introducing and celebrating “Closet of Dreams,” a children’s chapter book written by local author Tara Mesalik MacMahon and her brother Mark Ukra, and illustrated by local artist Donna Dyer. “Closet of Dreams” is an Amazon #1 New Release in Children’s Books, and features a great cast of characters including a nine-year-old-boy named Child and his newly adopted, best friend sidekick, a rescue dachshund named Hilda! With themes such as pet adoption and dreaming big included in their story, this event allows us to come together as a community to celebrate the life-saving gift of pet adoption, the power of reading and books, and just plain ol’ having fun together!

Join APS-FH on Sunday, June 23, from 1 – 3 p.m.! If you plan to attend, please read the important notes below:

Parking is limited, so we encourage those who can, to carpool. Upon arrival at the event, be on the lookout for signage regarding where to park, and areas that are closed off to vehicle traffic.

This event is happening at the shelter, and we’re excited to be able to offer some interactions with our rescue animals. However, we ask that you keep your own pets at home, and follow staff and volunteer directions for interacting with the shelter pets, and about areas that are off-limits.

This event has inside and outside elements, which means we’re hoping for great weather! Should it rain, the event will still go on, but some activities may need to be adjusted.

We’ll see you there!
