Wolverines’ volleyball team beat Lynnwood

On Oct.17, the Friday Harbor girls’ volleyball team, along with the boys’ soccer, traveled to Mountlake Terrace for their game against Cedar Park Christian Lynwood.

However, this experience was especially critical for the girls’ volleyball team; they were especially motivated to bring home a win after their game against Darrington, where they lost 3-2. With the Darrington game fresh in the Wolverines’ minds, they were determined to win it.

“I think one of the reasons we won today is because we all had that built-up frustration of not winning the Darrington game,” commented Carolyn Talbott, outside hitter.

The game started strong with multiple service aces from freshman outside hitter Vera Schoultz.

The set continued as usual with the Eagles hustling for the ball, sending many out-of-system plays toward the Wolverines; side.

However, the girls didn’t let up. They pushed hard ultimately winning the first and second sets.

The third set was ultimately won by the Eagles’. The Wolverines’, however, were determined to get back. Which the girls did, winning the fourth set 12-25 and coming out victorious in the game.

“I’m very excited about the results today just because I really feel like all of our hard work is paying off finally, and we can definitely see that we’re improving,” commented coach Willie Blackmon.

Both Wolverines’ teams ended up bringing back home wins followed by a complimentary celebration on the bus.

The volleyball team felt accomplished with their win and are preparing for their next game against the LaConner Braves on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 4:30 p.m. in the Turnball gym.
