The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 2

• A deputy on Orcas received a debit card that was found by a citizen. The owner was not able to be located, and the card was logged into evidence for safekeeping.

• The Lopez Sheriff’s Office, US Coast Guard, and Canadian Border Patrol responded to a report of a missing person. An individual on Center Island disappeared after going late-night kayaking alone. Search efforts were made. The individual has not yet been located.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a local business about an unwanted person. This person had been asked to leave the business several times and was refusing to do so. On being ordered to leave by the deputy, the person left, and a trespass warning letter was later issued to the person.

• A deputy responded to a dog bite incident that occurred on Orcas. Information was obtained from both owner and the victim of the bite.

• A deputy took a report of a suspicious circumstance call in Eastsound. The case is under further investigation.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a suspicious call. The matter is under investigation.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a mental health call. The reporting party was experiencing hallucinations subsequent to illicit drug use. Mental health resources were offered and refused.

• San Juan deputies stopped an individual driving in Friday Harbor for traveling 35 mph in a 25 mph zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and received additional warnings.

Aug. 3

• A San Juan deputy took a report of vandalism. Several businesses in Friday Harbor had been damaged by graffiti. Video footage of the incident is being reviewed.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of a male who had brandished a knife against another male. Upon further investigation, it was determined a knife was pulled against another person and the subject was arrested for brandishing a weapon.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a report of harassment. The investigation is ongoing, and the incident was documented.

• San Juan deputies stopped an individual in Friday Harbor for an obstructed license plate and an inoperable brake light. The driver was issued a citation for not having a valid driver’s license with ID, and received additional warnings.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of found property. The owner was identified, and the item was booked into evidence until it could be retrieved.

Aug. 4

• On San Juan, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a expired registration. The driver was issued a criminal citation for not having a valid operator’s license with ID, a citation for not having insurance, and a warning for an expired registration. A probable cause statement was sent to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to an Agency Assist. The deputy arrived and made contact with the people involved, and took one person into protective custody.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a fraud call at the Orcas substation.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of found property. The deputy placed the item that was turned into the Sheriff’s Office into evidence.

• Orcas officers were dispatched to an aircraft accident at the Eastsound Airport. There were no injuries reported and the airplane was removed from the runway without incident. The FAA and NTSB were contacted.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of an unwanted person in the Friday Harbor area and contacted the people involved. The business requested that the person be served with a trespass warning letter.

• A San Juan deputy arrested and booked a person into jail for trespassing. This person knowingly entered a business from which they had been barred approximately six minutes prior.

• Orcas deputies were asked to issue an individual a trespass warning from an establishment and documented the incident.

• On Orcas deputies contacted an individual who lost their animals. The individual was given guidance on how to reacquire the animals.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver, a visitor to the island, was subsequently issued a citation for speeding 68 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Aug. 5

• A deputy on San Juan Island was dispatched to a report of an aggressive dog.

• An Orcas deputy was asked to issue a trespass warning to an individual from a local business. A trespass warning letter was completed.

• A deputy was contacted about a report of malicious mischief in the Friday Harbor area. The incident occurred last month and involved damage to a parked vehicle.

• A deputy was contacted about property found on San Juan and the item was entered into evidence.

• San Juan deputies stopped an individual in Friday Harbor for failure to use a seat belt, expired registration, and invalid license. The individual was issued a citation for not having a valid driver’s license with ID, an expired registration, and failing to have insurance, as well as a warning.

• A San Juan deputy initiated a traffic stop on a known driver with a suspended license. The driver was cooperative and was issued a citation for the suspended license along with a court date, and a traffic citation for not having proof of insurance.

• San Juan deputies stopped the driver of a vehicle in Friday Harbor for multiple prolonged stops at stop signs and an inoperable brake light. The driver was arrested for a DUI and booked into jail. A charge of felony harassment was also added.

• A newer model Ford Bronco has been seen illegally dumping trash at Odlin Park. Two of the vehicles are registered on Lopez; a deputy will follow up with each owner.

• A wallet and cell phone were turned over to a Lopez deputy after being found at Odlin Park. The owner was located in the ferry line.

• A deputy was dispatched to an overdose on San Juan. The deputies arrived and the victim was conscious and speaking. They were treated at the scene by San Juan EMS and released.

• The Liquor Control board requested assistance regarding an Orcas Island establishment.

• A deputy on San Juan Island was dispatched to a report of vandalism.

• A Lopez deputy was called regarding a verbal disturbance between a husband and wife visiting from out of state.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of dogs-at-large. The dogs were returned home and a plan was established to better contain the dogs.

• A deputy responded to a welfare check in Friday Harbor. Upon arrival, it was discovered that an individual was inside the residence and needed medical attention. Access was gained to the residence and they were transported to the hospital for further care.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of littering in Friday Harbor. A local business’s emergency exit path was partially blocked by the trash of another business.

Aug. 7

• A San Juan deputy waiting in the ferry lanes observed a driver of a vehicle who had a suspended driver’s license. The deputy’s report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of vandalism on San Juan.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a walk-in report of fraud.

• A deputy was dispatched to assist Customs at the Port of Friday Harbor. Possible drugs were seized and booked into evidence.

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 70 mph in a posted 40 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a theft complaint at a local business. One of their employees was reportedly caught stealing. The employee was terminated and trespassed from the business indefinitely.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of vandalism.

• A deputy on Orcas received an outer-island theft complaint, and deputies were dispatched to the island. After further investigation, it was determined that no crime had occurred.

• A deputy on San Juan took an e-mailed report for a welfare check on a possible San Juan County resident. After an investigation, the deputy located the individual and they reported they were okay. No crime was reported.

• A deputy responded along with Orcas Fire and Rescue personnel to assist a person experiencing a health crisis. The person was transported to a hospital for further treatment.

Aug. 8

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle as the owner had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was issued citations for DWLS-3rd degree and for operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock, and for not having insurance.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of trespassing. One person was taken into custody for trespassing-1st degree.

• Deputies on San Juan were dispatched to an assault onboard a Washington State ferry. One person was arrested and charged with three counts of assault-3rd degree, one count of second-degree malicious mischief, and one count of possession of contraband by a prisoner.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a citizen assist in Friday Harbor after it was reported that items might be stolen. After talking with involved individuals and family members, it was determined that there was no evidence of a crime.

• On San Juan, a deputy took a report of threats via text messages and phone calls. The reporting party said they will petition for a no-contact order.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a vandalism complaint. The perpetrator was charged with violation of RCW 9A.48.080 – malicious mischief-2nd degree.
