Island Artisans Awards $17,500 in scholarships

Submitted by Island Artisans.

Island Artisans is a local non-profit organization whose goal is to raise funds in support of young artists within our community. We have served San Juan County for approximately 45 years by granting scholarships to graduating students and supporting practicing artists.

Island Artisans Holiday Market, our primary fundraiser, has always been held on San Juan Island the weekend after Thanksgiving at the Fair Grounds.

Proceeds from artisan’s booth fees and a percentage of sales go towards the scholarships we grant annually. There were $17,500 worth of scholarships awarded in June to 9 seniors from three different schools.

Following are the winners:

Friday Harbor High School

Islay Ross, Larissa Mauldin, Luke Totten, Sophia Swanson, Sidney Herda and Lily Rock

Spring Street International School

Madison Miller and Naya Bullock

Orcas Island Christian School

Evan Kulper

Island Artisans also awards the Ottley Briggs Schonberger Scholarship. This year the winner was Luke Totten from FHHS.
