By Jack Rice, Golf Coach.
Freshman, Jack Hess shattered his lowest round in competition by four shots in the first round of the High School State Tournament by firing a 77. Under tough playing conditions, he held it together to close with an 83 and captured 7th place in his first of many state tournaments. Hess has been working with Marcus King, the new Teaching Pro at San Juan Golf Club and it has really paid off. Stepping onto the big stage, and shooting the best score of his life begins the next chapter of his golfing career. We are all proud of him and look forward to, maybe someday, bringing home some gold for the high school trophy case.
Five players on our team just missed going to state. Junior, Ryan Rautenberg, Sophomore, Fisher Goosman, Freshman, Finn Graham and 8th graders, Sam Herda and Dylan Lawson were all within a handful of shots to made it to the State Tournament.
The other player who qualified for the State tournament was Sophomore Morgan Douglass. She missed the cut to play in the second day of the event. Morgan has a solid game and we expect many visits to the big show before she graduates.
