Ag Guild announces plaza enhancement plans with new outdoor stage for Summer 2023
Construction will begin this spring on a beautiful new venue for music, arts, and gatherings at Brickworks. Featuring a craftsman-built stage designed by Pete Kilpatrick, Sunshine Plaza will showcase the talents of island artisans and create an iconic architectural centerpiece in the heart of Friday Harbor. Completing the plaza development to match the distinctive Brickworks interior is a long-held vision for the Ag Guild, which remodeled the historic building as a home for the farmers market a decade ago. The initiative aims to realize the plaza’s potential as a welcoming, joyful, and accessible space for locals and visitors. “Our community needs an outdoor venue for entertainment and community gathering,” says Becki Day, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce.
The stage will support outdoor entertainment for public and private parties. “The stage adds a key piece to the town puzzle,” says Mayor Ray Jackson. “This is going to be a great way to bring back music festivals—with an actual place to get down in the center of town.” The surrounding plaza design by David Waldron includes year-round covered market stalls, landscaping, an entry arch, and public art, all slated for 2024 completion.
A capital campaign to raise $275,000 is underway, and the Ag Guild invites the community to support the project through tax-deductible donations or by volunteering. More information is available at https://fhbrickworks.com/sunshine-plaza/.
