Local teens lead family day hike

Submitted by the Trails Committee

Sunday, May 29 the Trails Committee and Friday Harbor Film Festival are organizing a family hike beginning at 11 a.m at the triangle parking area at Roche Harbor and West Valley Roads.

The hike will be led by high school students and expert hikers, Ava and Lucy Martin and sixth-grader Milo Martin

Bring your lunch. We will walk out a stroller-friendly path to Briggs Lake on Roche Harbor Highlands to Picnic Rock.

There we will eat drink and be merry while National Parks Superintendent Lexi Fredy gives a short talk on

“Being the Female Superintendent of our local National Parks.” Bring your questions for a short Q&A after the talk.

Then, led by Ava, Lucy and Milo again, we will walk back all the way around the lake.

People may take the short walk back to the parking area.

Later, at 4 p.m. at the San Juan Island Grange, there will be a free screening of three short documentary films donated by the Friday Harbor Film Festival. Films include “When Goats Fly,” “Grizzlies of the Sea” and “Cascades Crossroads.”

Everyone is invited to this special island family day.
