Ribbon cutting for new deck at Madrone Cellars

Submitted by the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce.

The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Farhad Ghatan held a ribbon-cutting at the grand opening of the new deck at Madrone Cellars and Cider.

Madrone Cellars & Cider is the dream of co-owners Shaun and Amy Salamida, they said: “Our first harvest was fall 2017, and our boutique winery and cidery is located at October Farms in the San Juan Valley. Our long term dream is to own and operate a biodynamic and organic vineyard and orchard, but first we need to find land!

With a focus on sustainability and local ingredients, we craft everything ourselves at the winery. We even bring the grapes home on the ferry from Eastern Washington and press them here!

In February 2020, we signed our lease for 40 1st Street, excited for our first summer season with a downtown tasting room. Of course, everyone knows what happened next. Covid! We went forward with our plans, and even though the summer was drastically different than anticipated, it was a blessing in disguise. The slow summer let us learn and grow with this expansion, and better prepare us for the insanity of 2021. Now with the Madrone Wine Garden officially open, we are ready to welcome locals and tourists alike to sip wine and cider and find tranquility from the bustle of Friday Harbor.”

Open noon-6 p.m., Wednesday-Monday at 40 First Street.
