May is National Law Month. To celebrate it, local high school government classes are holding mock trials through Thursday, 6-9 p.m., in the Superior Court courtroom on the second floor of the courthouse.

The mock trials, which began Tuesday, are open to the public.

“Students have the opportunity to interact with local attorneys,” said Jim McNairy, government teacher at Friday Harbor High School.

“Students get to learn how the criminal justice system works in our country and get a further understanding and appreciation for the rights we have under the Constitution.”

Attorneys Steve Brandley, Lawrence DeLay, Carla Higginson, Kathleen Marshall, Mary Stone and John Wickham have been working with government students at the school to prepare them for the mock trials.
