The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Jan. 6
• A San Juan deputy responded to a request to standby while a person retrieved their belongings from a relative’s residence. The caller retrieved the belongings without incident, and the owner of the residence trespassed the caller and the caller’s boyfriend. A trespassing letter was served.
• A deputy responded to a report of vandalism in Friday Harbor. After speaking with the caller it was determined there were no witnesses, no suspect information, no video surveillance and no workable leads. Photos were taken of the damage.
• A Lopez deputy was called about an incident of verbal harassment.
• San Juan deputies responded to a citizen dispute. The reporting party was interviewed, and evidence was documented; the offending party had left prior to the deputy’s arrival. This case is ongoing.
• Someone on San Juan found a Ford key and turned it into the sheriff’s office. An owner was unable to be located and the key was entered into the property and evidence room.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a burglary call.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person.
Jan. 7
• A deputy on San Juan issued a driver a citation for traveling 62 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.
• A deputy on Orcas issued a driver a citation for speeding, 42 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• On Orcas, a deputy isused a driver a citation for speeding 48 mph in a 35 mph zone and for not having a valid driver’s license with valid identification.
• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding 45 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
• A Lopez deputy spoke with a resident regarding an on-going domestic dispute. The reporting person, who did not want to file a formal complaint, said they were in a verbally abusive dating relationship. The deputy encouraged the caller to call SAFE San Juans for additional advice.
• After responding to a call about a domestic incident, deputies on Lopez talked with both parties engaged in a disagreement. Deputies established that no physical violence had occurred and no threats had been made. The two parties reached a peaceful resolution.
Jan. 8
• A deputy on San Juan issued a driver a citation for speeding 63 mph in a 45 mph zone.
• A citizen on San Juan called 911 to report a verbal disturbance between a man and a woman at Overlook Park. Deputies responded and determined the pair were domestic partners, but the disturbance was verbal only.
• A deputy in San Juan responded to a call that a 16-year-old was out of control with the family. No one was injured.
• A deputy on Orcas issued a driver a citation for speeding and for not having a valid driver’s license with valid identification. The driver was arrested for driving without a required ignition interlock device.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and was issued a citation for failing to stop at the stop sign.
Jan. 9
• On San Juan, a deputy observed a driver in a vehicle with defective taillight. After stopping the driver, the deputy discovered that the driver had no evidence of insurance. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance and received a warning for the defective taillight.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a domestic incident report. The deputy found no evidence of a prosecutable crime. One of the involved parties found another place to stay for a few days.
• A deputy on Lopez ticketed an unattended vehicle left in the ferry line as the 12:45 p.m. sailing to Anacortes was loading.
• A Lopez deputy took a report from a group of hikers that a dog, running loose, had stalked and attempted to bite one of them at one of the island’s parks. The dog did not heed repeated calls from the owner to return despite pleas from the hikers.
Jan. 10
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a trespassing call near the ferry landing. The suspect was given a trespassing warning letter.
• A deputy responded to a property damage call near Eastsound. A report was taken and referred to the prosecutor’s office.
• Deputies on Orcas issued a driver a citation for driving 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A Lopez deputy was called about a hit-and-run with property damage to a vehicle that had occurred in the previous 48 hours.
• An Orcas deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.
Jan. 11
• A deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy made contact with the caller who said there was a problem with a roommate. No crimes were found to have been committed.
• Orcas deputies arrested a driver for driving under the influence.
Jan. 12
• A deputy took a report of fraud in Friday Harbor. The person reported being the victim of a phone scam and sending money via UPS to an unknown person in California. Shipment of the money was stopped, returned to the victim, and no loss was incurred.
• In Friday Harbor, a deputy responded to a residential alarm in Friday Harbor. The deputy found no signs of forced entry or burglary. No one was home at the time and attempts to contact the homeowner were unsuccessful.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a neighbor’s loose calf on the caller’s property. The calf returned to its property and the owner was contacted and advised to check and fix any holes in the fence to keep his cattle on his property.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a single vehicle wreck on San Juan Island. A single vehicle left the roadway and drove through a fence. There were no injuries.
