Gingerbread contest winners announced

The winners of the first-ever San Juan Building Association’s Gingerbread House Contest are in.

There were two categories, each with a first-place prize of $500 — the Youth Division for ages 15 and younger; and the Adult Division for ages 16 and up. For both divisions, there is a second-place prize of $250, a third-place prize of $100 and three additional $50 prizes will go to the winners of the “Most Creative,” “Community Favorite,” and “Best Holiday Spirit.”

In the Youth Division, winning first place was Isla Dallman, No. 26; second place was Addison Musburger’s Enchanted Forest, No. 17; and in third place was Lyla Ovenell, No. 20.

In the Adult Division, winning first place was Elena Tapia, No. 23, with Ava’s Sweet Chateau; second place was a tie between Piper Taylor’s cabin, No. 12, and Will and Emily Shields’ sweet little home, no. 22; and in third place was Zoe Lawson’s Lime Kiln, No. 31.

Winning the Holiday Spirit award was Chiara Power’s Nutcracker Theater No. 25 and Alphabet Soup’s No Naps in this house, No. 15. The award for Most Creative went to Richard Reeves’s Sea Sleigh, No. 29, and Alison Power’s Sweet Ferry No. 24. Finally, the Community Favorite winner was Halley Byrne.
