Karl C. Mueller died peacefully on Nov 27, 2020, at 1:40 p.m. at a hospital in Kalispell, Montana, after a long battle with cancer.

He lived in Friday Harbor for 30 years. He was born in Los Angeles on April 9, 1950, to Robert and Catherine Mueller. He grew up in Canoga Park, California, and after graduating high school, then he enlisted in the United States Army and was deployed for two tours in Vietnam as an Armor Crewman with the 25th Infantry, Tropic Lightning Division. Although he never boasted about it, he was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star with Valor. His love and pride for his part in defending the United States as it was founded without relent was very important and was his defining characteristic.

After 30 years of living on San Juan Island in Washington, working as a carpenter and being intricately involved with the Friday Harbor American Legion, Karl and his wife of 27 years Carol with their two Yorkies moved to Montana.

Karl always treated people with respect and earned the love and respect of many friends, associates and coworkers. Enormous challenges at times arose and Karl was able to humbly press on and overcome them all while maintaining a keen sense of humor that put a smile on the faces of so many. He will always be remembered for his great sacrifice, honor, integrity and his genuine unselfish nature and brotherly love. A loving husband, a dear friend and an all-around good man will be sincerely be missed.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Carol and her son Daniel; three granddaughters and one great-grandson; his sister Yvonne her husband Wayne Chance; nephew Sean his wife Hooki Chance; and niece Ginger her husband Rich Toth.
