As two who grew up in Friday Harbor, my husband and I find it somewhat alarming the typical service and attitude received at various eating establishments in town when we’re back to visit many times over the summer and fall months.
When a community is based on tourist trade and dollars, you might expect that waiters, servers and even owners would actually be friendly and provide service so that customers would want to return. That certainly has not been the case. The terrible service and, even worse, bad attitude is so unexpected – so much for small-town hospitality – the majority of people we encounter behave as though we are putting them out! We won’t be returning to these businesses only to get dismissive service.
The grocery stores and town services have the most pleasant of employees. Too bad about the rest of what seems like the majority.
