The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following.
June 19
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a traffic offense near Eastsound. The suspect was located and given a citation for tampering with construction signs.
• A deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist in Friday Harbor. A report was taken and forwarded to another agency.
• A deputy responded to a report of vandalism in Friday Harbor. The information was gathered, a report made, and no suspect information or workable leads are available at this time.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle.
• A deputy responded to a report by an Orcas business owner of an unwanted person. The owner requested the subject be issued a trespass letter. The deputy was able to locate the subject and they were removed from the property.
• An Orcas deputy saw somebody that was known to have a warrant for their arrest. The person was arrested, taken off the island and booked into jail.
June 20
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a reported hit-and-run. After further investigation, both parties involved exchanged information and no citations were issued.
• A Lopez man was issued a citation for driving without a valid license and for not having proof of vehicle insurance.
• A Lopez deputy and the Lopez Fire Department checked on a residence that had a burglary and fire alarm activation. The house was found to be secure, and there was no fire.
• San Juan deputies responded to a single-car, non-injury collision on private property. Information was exchanged between parties.
• Deputies on San Juan were dispatched to a report of a domestic incident.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a theft that occurred a week prior. The investigation is ongoing.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a theft where the suspect and victim where related. The suspect had stolen prescription medications. The suspect was arrested and transported to Friday Harbor.
June 21
• A deputy responded to a single-vehicle, rollover collision on Orcas. The driver received minor injuries and was charged with driving with a suspended license.
• On San Juan, a deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle with a defective brake light. The driver was arrested and booked for driving with a suspended driver’s license and an ignition interlock violation. The driver was also issued a citation for not having insurance and having a defective tail light.
• A driver on San Juan was stopped by a deputy for speeding and issued a citation.
June 22
• In Friday Harbor, a deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for failing to stop at a posted stop sign and for a damaged license plate. The driver and passenger were subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance after a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle.
• A Lopez deputy was called to investigate an incident of trespass and vandalism that occurred sometime during the night when a load of dirt and rocks were dumped, blocking the reporting party’s driveway. The incident is under investigation.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a speeding citation for driving 41 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone.
• A driver traveling 42 mph in a 25 mph zone on Orcas was stopped by a deputy and issued a citation for speeding.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a 911 hang-up call. After checking the location and the surrounding area, the call was determined to be unfounded.
• A Lopez resident asked the sheriff’s office to hold some rifles for safekeeping. The firearms were logged into property pending release.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a warning for speeding.
June 23
• A Lopez deputy responded to a complaint of chainsaw noise in the late night hours. The unknown suspect was gone when the deputy arrived. The caller will be installing cameras in an effort to identify the trespassing firewood thief.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a warning for speeding.
• Deputies on Orcas tagged an abandoned vehicle and added photos to the case file.
• A Lopez deputy was sent to conduct a welfare check on a child at the request of the child’s non-custodial parent. The child was found and appeared to be in no distress or danger.
June 24
• Orcas deputies and Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to a three-car accident at the intersection of North Beach Road and Mt. Baker Road. One of the drivers was issued a citation.
• Neighbors called about a suspicious male in a white van in their Orcas neighborhood. The man reportedly has two young girls with him and may be living in the van. He was allegedly accessing people’s property from beach trails and soliciting work.
• A deputy was dispatched to an agency assist in Friday Harbor.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted three traffic stops. Each driver was issued a warning for speeding.
• A deputy on Orcas cleared a piece of rolled carpet from the road.
• An Orcas deputy recovered an abandoned bicycle from Rossel Lane.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a theft in Friday Harbor.
• A Lopez deputy arrested a subject on a local felony warrant. The subject was transported to Friday Harbor pending an appearance in court.
• An Orcas deputy recognized a person who was known to have a warrant for their arrest. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to Friday Harbor.
• An Orcas deputy took a report from a citizen regarding an assault that occurred a couple months prior. The investigation is ongoing.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of an order violation between two neighbors. The investigation is ongoing.
• A deputy on San Juan arrested a subject on a local warrant. The subject was booked on the warrant as well as possession of a controlled substance.
June 25
• A deputy was dispatched to the San Juan Island area in reference to a citizen assist. The deputy arrived and contacted the involved people.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle. The rider was issued a notice of a citation for failing to wear a helmet, not having a motorcycle endorsement and having a registration that was expired for more than 2 months.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor issued citations to a driver for improperly passing on the right, failing to carry registration documents and warnings for failing to display current tabs and having defective equipment.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor issued a citation to a driver for failing to wear a seatbelt.
• An Orcas deputy issued a notice of citation for abandoning a vehicle at a local towing establishment.
