David B. and Elizabeth S. Hoisington of Davison Head celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary on Monday.
The Hoisingtons, known as “Honey” and “Granddad,” have lived on San Juan Island for 29 years.
They are the parents and parents-in-law of Charles and Mary Hoisington, Redding, Calif.; Helen and Dr. Dean Campbell, Sedona, Ariz.; and Nancy and Jack Bly of Eureka, Mont.
Their grandchildren are Zachary Hoisington and his wife, Kelli; Wendy Elizabeth Areus (she and her husband, Paul, who was married on her grandparents’ anniversary two years ago); David Payne and his wife, Angela; Jared Payne and his wife, Michelle; William Payne and his wife, Devin; and Jacub Bly.
Their great-grandchildren are Brandon and Mitchell Payne (sons of Jared and Michelle) and Hayden Alexis Payne (daughter of William and Devin).
The Hoisingtons were married by Dr. Luke White on Sept. 14, 1940 in St. Luke’s Episcopalian Church in Montclair, N.J.
Mr. Hoisington was a professor of electrical engineering at the U.S. Navy Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. Mrs. Hoisington was a realtor for 40 years.
The Hoisingtons met while in high school; David was a best friend of Elizabeth’s brother, John.
Once, David went to his friend’s house for dinner and Elizabeth had made brownies — for him, although he didn’t know that. When he reached for a brownie, his hand touched hers. They became high school sweethearts.
Asked about her 69th wedding anniversary plans, Mrs. Hoisington said she planned to make brownies, as she did for her 68th anniversary.
