Wolverine wrestling newcomers celebrate first pins

Senior Dante Prewitt and junior Keegan Bailey are new to this year’s Wolverines wrestling team but have both found personal success early on in the season. They both got their first pin at the Dec. 13 exhibition match.

Prewitt became a wrestler to “get in better shape and gain perseverance.”

For Bailey, this is his second win and first pin. His goal for the season is “to have more wins than losses.”

Bristol Halvorson, one of two female wrestlers on the team, said she is feeling confident with her 8-0 status thus far in the season.

“There’s more pressure to prove yourself as a girl in wrestling,” says Halvorson, “this year I’ve had a lot more confidence.”

She has high hopes for going to state as a sophomore. Halvorson and the other female wrestler, Jaclyn Domenech, competed in the 2018 Pride of Lady Lions Tournament where Domenech placed sixth and Halvorson scored 3 team points with place unknown.

The team competed in the Iron Sharpens Iron Tournament on Dec. 8 and ranked 6 out of 10 with a final score of 84.

Head coach Tad Bremer has been implementing video playback to help the team improve. Fourth-year wrestler Isaac Brumsickle said he believes “it’s good to see what things you have to work on.”

“[Coach Bremer] is not just here for wrestling but helps with life as well,” says Brumsickle about the new head coach, “he doesn’t hold us accountable but tells us how we can do better.”

The team is gearing up for the Sky Valley Invitational on Jan. 5 hosted at Sultan.
