San Juan Island students complete introductory aviation class

Submitted by Westwind Aviation Inc.

Island students completed eight, three-hour introductory classes at Westwind Aviation over the last two months. On the last night, attendees took a flying tour of the islands, landing at Orcas, Roche and Friday Harbor. The two who missed the last night were taken up a few days later. The class covered an introduction to aerodynamics, navigation, aircraft weather, aircraft systems, Federal Aviation Administration flight regulations, maintenance and aircraft performance.

The class was an excellent opportunity to learn about flying and at least one student is already planning to begin work on obtaining the private pilot’s license. The class was sponsored through the efforts of Kathleen Bartholomew in cooperation with Isaac Berg at COVE Youth Center.
