Robert Chapman, longtime resident of Friday Harbor, passed away Monday night Aug. 28, 2017 at the age of 90. He sailed into Friday Harbor in 1982 after completing his dream: to sail from Los Angeles to Hawaii with the love of his life, Marilyn. Many will remember him working on his boat the Frolic down at Shipyard cove, or for his work at the San Juan Presbyterian Youth Club, the Animal Shelter, and the Convalescent Center, or the beautiful window dressings he did for Marilyn at her store The Banana Belt. However, he was foremost an artist whose easel was in the living room leaving no doubt as to the importance he gave creativity. Robert was a witness, a creator, and a provider of beauty through his art and the way he lived his life providing the highest form of art; loving unconditionally. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather having been survived by his sister, four children, 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren with two more on the way.

A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

Robert unselfishly shared his vision with us; lighting the path before us. So, thank you, Robert, for teaching us how to see the beauty in the dance of the day, beauty in the lull of the night and the beauty that is you.
