The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

July 19

• A deputy met with a Lopez resident regarding a theft complaint. A report was completed.

• A Lopez Island man reported that his vehicle was damaged in a hit-and-run collision near the man’s workplace.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a reported arson that occurred at a local camp. The investigation continues.

• A caller reported that she located an item taken in a previous theft.

• A Lopez Island deputy contacted a Seattle man regarding crabbing season regulations in the San Juan Islands. Information about the limited season was provided.

• A deputy was dispatched to a domestic dispute in the Friday Harbor area. After investigating the incident, one subject was arrested for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.

• A citizen reported an electronic device was stolen from a Friday Harbor park.

July 20

• A Friday Harbor resident came to the office to report a fraudulent withdrawal from her KeyBank account. On July 7, $1,000 was withdrawn from the Magnolia branch by an unknown person. She has alerted the KeyBank fraud division and closed her account.

• A Friday Harbor resident called to report her boyfriend as a missing person since Tuesday. A missing person form was completed, pictures were obtained and deputies searched for the subject without success.

• An Orcas deputy was contacted about a hit-and-run that occurred during the prior week.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a complaint of an illegal dumping and theft of services at the Lopez Solid Waste facility, while it was closed. An investigation was completed and the suspect, who claimed ignorance, agreed to pay for the waste he had dumped.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a request for a call-back regarding a suspicious incident that occurred between July 12 and 19. The deputy called the reporting party and ascertained that no crime was committed.

• Orcas deputies responded to a report of a wanted person traveling in a vehicle along Orcas Road. A traffic stop was conducted and the passenger was arrested for an outstanding warrant. The driver was also cited for driving with a license suspended in the third degree and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

• Orcas Island deputies responded to the Eastsound area with fire and EMS personnel to a report of a rollover vehicle accident with possible injury. Upon arrival, deputies found there to be no injuries.

July 21

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a dog at large. The dog was returned to its owner and a warning letter was issued.

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft on Sucia Island.

• A deputy received a report of an apparent residential burglary in Eastsound. Approximately $900 was missing from the home. The case is under further investigation.

• A citizen contacted a deputy about harassment on social media. A deputy settled this incident without further law enforcement action.

• In Friday Harbor, a body was discovered. It turned out to be a person missing since July 18. The death was an apparent suicide and family was notified. Read more the July 26 edition of the Journal.

July 22

• A citizen advised a deputy of a traffic hazard near Olga. The deputy responded and discovered a motorhome had become stuck in the roadway and caused some damage to the county roadway.

• A Lopez Island deputy was called to investigate a abuse of a dog. The incident remains under investigation.

• A deputy was dispatched to a “trouble unknown” call in the San Juan Island area. The reporting deputy arrived and contacted the involved parties. It was determined the incident was a verbal domestic dispute and the parties were separated.

July 23

• An Orcas Deputy responded to a welfare check of an Eastsound resident. After a preliminary investigation, one of the parties agreed to let the subject of the welfare check spend the night at their residence. A report was made and referred to Compass Health MHP.

• A passport and Republic of Kenya driver’s license were turned in to the sheriff’s office.

July 24

• A Friday Harbor resident called to report a firecracker had been set off in her mailbox. The mailbox was undamaged and the firecracker was just shreds of paper. There was no other evidence.

• A Friday Harbor resident called to report the theft of his vehicle sometime between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Deputies found the vehicle at 9 a.m. It was undamaged but had $50 worth of items missing. There was no physical evidence and there are no suspects at this time.

• A Friday Harbor resident called to ask for a welfare check on a friend. Deputies contacted the person, who already had other friends with her. They were put in contact with the proper agencies.

• A deputy responded to the Olga area on a reported hit-and-run collision. It was discovered that the damage to a vehicle was most likely a vandalism and had not been struck by another vehicle. The case is under further investigation.

• A Cape San Juan resident reported the theft of nine live crabs from his “crab condo” tied to the Cape San Juan docks. The reporting party is searching for any possible suspects.

• A driver was stopped and cited in Eastsound for driving with an invalid license.

• A deputy initiated a traffic stop in Friday Harbor. The driver was issued infractions for not having a valid operator’s license and failure to wear a seatbelt.

July 25

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped and cited two drivers on Fisherman Bay Road for speeding.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a motorist and issued a ticket after he saw him speeding just north of Lopez Village.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a request for a welfare check on a woman who has been missing for several months, but her location is still unknown. An investigation is being conducted.

• A deputy made a traffic stop in the San Juan Island area. The driver was contacted and issued an infraction for exceeding the posted speed limit.

• A citizen reported being harassed at the Roche Harbor Resort.

• A San Juan citizen reported that an unknown person was siphoning gas from her pick-up truck.

• A deputy investigated a report of a domestic dispute on San Juan.. The incident was verbal only and settled by the officer.
