It’s only been about a week since the official start of summer, but temperatures are heating up.

Reports on Weather Underground state that the high on Saturday, June 24 was 84 degrees in Friday Harbor and the high on Sunday, June 25 was 88 degrees. Those are records for those days in Friday Harbor, according to Weather Underground, which shares weather data from members’ personal weather stations.

On Thursday, June 22, the National Weather Service issued a high-temperature advisory across western Washington for the weekend of June 24 through 25. In some areas, highs were expected to be record breaking, while in the San Juans it was predicted to be about 10 degrees cooler than the highest locally recorded temperatures.

On the islands, the high on Saturday, June 24 was predicted to be around 77 degrees. On Sunday, June 25, it was forecasted to be 75.

A representative from the National Weather Service representative from the Seattle/Tacoma office said they do not keep a lot of historic weather data for the islands. According to their data, the record high for the islands on Saturday, June 24 was 84 degrees in 1926, as reported in Olga on Orcas Island. The record high for Sunday, June 25 was 87 degrees in 1925.
