National Theatre Live from London and The Met: Live in HD from New York are each featured this weekend at San Juan Community Theatre.

At 7 p.m., Friday, May 26, a modern production of Ibsen’s classic drama, “Hedda Gabler,” will be screened in the Whittier. Directed by Tony Award-winner Ivo van Hove (“A View from the Bridge” at the Young Vic Theatre), the play features Ruth Wilson (“Luther,” “The Affair,” “Jane Eyre”) in the title role in this new version by Patrick Marber (“Notes on a Scandal,” “Closer”).

Then, at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 28, R. Strauss’s romantic masterpiece, Der Rosenkavalier, winds up The Met: Live in HD season. It is the Met’s first new production since 1969 of the Opera and stars Renée Fleming in one of her signature roles as the Marschallin, opposite Elīna Garanča in her first North American performances as Octavian, the impulsive young title character.

Tickets for each event are $20 for adults, $18 for SJCT members and $10 for student reserved. Due to a financial agreement with the Met, no SJCT coupons are accepted for these productions. Tickets are available at www.sjctheatre.org or at the SJCT Box Office: 378-3210.
