Tammy Anderson is not only a mother of two daughters and one son, but a mother to every kid at Friday Harbor High School.
“It’s great having someone so positive in the front office, both for helping students and staff,” says math teacher Kevin Cullen.
Anderson’s official title is the attendance secretary, but she does so much more than just deal with the students going to class.
She is an office administrator, which means Anderson is the first face you see when you walk into the high school, and it sure is a bright one.
Anderson is in charge of any announcements that need to be made throughout the day, making the principal’s schedule and, of course, dealing with all of the teenagers in the high school on a daily basis.
No matter how much Friday Harbor High School throws at Anderson, she tackles the task at hand with a smile.
“Tammy helps me on a daily basis, from figuring out where people are in what class, to helping me make copies for my teachers,” says senior Cady Wilson.
Many seniors see Anderson every day. Their senior schedules are full of scholarships, AP testing, college decisions and more. Anderson also helps students of every grade.
“Tammy [Anderson] is the best person ever, she is so willing to give back to our school,” says Senior Hayden Mayer.
But it’s not just the students who think Anderson is the heart of the high school, but the teachers and faculty as well.
“Tammy is so kind and really cares about all of the students here, it is demonstrated daily through her actions,” says Janet Scheffer, the career college and counseling assistant.
“I appreciate working with someone who is so compassionate with students best interests at the center of everything she does. When she makes and announcement on the intercom, everybody just goes, ‘awww.’ She has a wicked sense of style, we talk fashion all the time,” says English teacher April Busch.
Anderson is beloved by all who she comes in contact with, and is always looking for ways to improve the school and its environment.
