The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:
Jan. 11
• A driver was stopped on Orcas for having an expired vehicle registration and was cited for the infraction.
Jan. 12
• A deputy responded to a theft at a Friday Harbor business. The complainant reported multiple work tools were taken from the bed of his work truck.
• A deputy responded to an Eastsound address in regards to mail tampering. No suspects are known. A report was taken.
• An Orcas man reported a tree that had fallen on his property in a recent windstorm had been cut up and removed by an unknown suspect.
Jan. 13
• The special deputy on Shaw Island was called to handle a juvenile problem. A report about the incident was written. The report was forwarded to the undersheriff and the county juvenile unit was contacted and will try to aid the family.
Jan. 14
• A deputy obtained a written statement from an apparent fraud victim at the request of the Burlington Police Department. It is believed that a driver falsified their information while a traffic stop was conducted. San Juan County has helped identify the suspect and Burlington Police Department is looking to charge the suspect.
• Lopez deputies assisted with traffic control as a ferry unloaded through the fire staging area on a Hazmat call.
• A Lopez Island deputy was sent to check an unoccupied residence by the tenant. The home was found secure.
• A Lopez Island resident called regarding a group of people out on the ice on Hummel Lake. A deputy contacted the group and cautioned them on the dangers posed by a failure of the ice in supporting their weight. The group left the lake.
• Lopez deputies responded to a reported juvenile problem. No crimes were alleged and the family dispute was mediated by responding deputies.
Jan. 16
• Deputies assisted EMS with an intoxicated patient on Lopez.
• A Lopez Island business reported that someone had attempted to force entry to a coin operated machine. The lock was not breached, but the mechanism was damaged in the attempt. A report was taken.
• A Lopez Island deputy was sent to investigate suspicious circumstances at a residence. An unfamiliar vehicle was seen in the caller’s driveway and it departed without anyone approaching the house. Some damaged property was discovered after the vehicle left. The matter is under investigation.
