Betty Lou Nord, 73, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Optum Hospice in Birmingham, Ala.

She was born on May 17, 1942, in Charleston, S.C., the daughter and fifth child in a family of eight, of Henry and Evelyn (Poole) Lee.

Betty lived in Portland, Ore. from 1956 until 1972, when she moved to Seattle, Wash. While in Seattle she worked in real estate and land development until she met and married John M. Nord in 1978.

In 1994, they retired to Friday Harbor, Wash., and enjoyed a wonderful life on the island. Betty loved decorating/designing and gardening. She also was a fabulous cook and was a hostess of many dinners for friends.

Betty was known for a wonderful sense of humor and was extremely generous to all people. Betty and John spent 36 blessed years together until John went to be with the Lord on Aug. 6, 2014. After his death, she moved to Birmingham to be with her family.

Betty is survived and will be forever missed by her sister, Tina Burleson of Birmingham, Ala.; a niece, Kelly Rushin of Birmingham; a nephew and his wife, Kasey and Allison Burleson, also of Birmingham, and all the people she met while she was here that were forever touched by her life and wisdom.

Betty was honored and celebrated by family and friends at a memorial service on May 31, 2015 at Highland Avenue Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Ala. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at St. Francis Cemetery in Friday Harbor, Wash. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Anacortes, Wash. and the San Juan Islands.
